We were delighted to be invited to programme for the Fastnet Film Festival, based in Schull in County Cork in the South West of Ireland recently, and so it was that we took the short flight over to Cork for the opening of the FFF 2017. Now in it’s 9th year, the Fastnet Film Festival, is possibly the only film festival in the world that doesn’t have a cinema but despite this seemingly fatal handicap, […]
Saturday June 3rd will be our last night at the 2017 Hidden Door festival and no doubt we’ll be feeling quite sad to close the cinema door behind us again, but at least we will be going out with a bang (literally so, in the case of one of our films!)
So, as always, it gives us a lot of pleasure to bring our final programme to Hidden Door 2017. We are also hoping to welcome […]
We’re back at Hidden Door for the 2017 events and this year’s abandoned building of choice is the Leith Theatre!
Our first night there was on Saturday 27th May when we and we also held a night of black comedy on Tuesday night. As usual, the Hidden Door team have undertaken a huge and awe-inspiring job of work on the building which was last occupied in 1989.
Luckily for us, Alexandra Person was on hand to take some stills […]
We do like a bit of black comedy here at the ESFF so when Hidden Door offered us a chance to play some of our favourites from last year, we had a quick conflab and by mutual agreement came up with a programme that is dark and funny and back to dark again, so gives you some idea of what a sick bunch of individuals we are!
First off, IMITATIONS by Fabian Velasco & Milos Mitrovic […]
The second article previewing the short film programme we’re presenting at the 2017 Fastnet Film Festival:
The marginal existance of migrant workers are literally on the periphery of existence in modern-Europe and a ESFF favourite, GAS STATION by Alessandro Palazzi, provides a unique insight into the lives of two North African migrants, pumping gas in a desolate gas station on the outskirts of Rome. Eschewing the usual appeals to the viewer’s conscience, the film explores the […]
We recently took a stroll through the decayed hulk that is the Leith Theatre, the 1500 auditorium is like being inside a beached whale while it’s magnificently decaying corridors are waiting to be filled again!
Jack Hunter, head of the Leith Trust gave us the gen on the history and changing times of the Leith Theatre, opened in 1928 and finally abandoned in 1989, it’s finally going to see it’s first major arts event in nearly 30 […]
Supported by a range of illustrious names, including David Puttnam, Mike Leigh, Jim Sheridan, Steve Coogan and many others, the FFF has grown into a fabulous celebration of short film, in all its forms and we are priviliged to have been asked to participate.
The theme for this year’s event is ‘Light From the Land’ which reflects the aim of the FFF in bringing about a European Peripheral Festivals Network, linking Festivals from the periphery of […]
A Fast trip to the Fastnet Film Festival
We have been busy recently setting up a new partnership with The Fastnet Film Festival, which is based in Schull, County Cork in the Republic of Ireland.
The festival has been running since 2009 with the aim of bringing together established and first-time filmmakers to celebrate short film and short film-making in the convivial and relaxed atmosphere of an Irish village. They show the competition films in the village […]
Some more evocative shots of the Leith Theatre, venue for this year’s Hidden Door.
This is the amply-sized and beautifully proportioned 1500 capacity auditorium in all it’s pre-war, art deco glory.
Unused for nearly 30 years, it’s shortly undergoing a minor renaissance as Hidden Door prepare to use it as the venue for this year’s Hidden Door festival!
PS: It’s OK, the strange figure in the distance isn’t an apparition, it’s only Laura Bourjac, one of our co-ordinators!
We’re very honoured to have been interviewed recently by our 2016/2017 partners, Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia, the biggest short film event in Asia! We’re curating 4 nights of short films at the 2017 Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia events in June.
We’ll be publishing some images and a news report about the festival nearer the time – our very lucky press co-ordinator, Alice Shone is going all the way there to represent the ESFF […]
