Moody, magnificent, reckless, and dangerous to know!

Moody, magnificent, reckless, and dangerous to know! Not a reference to Lord Byron but in fact the fire exit at the Leith Theatre!

Yes, THIS moody, magnificent and reckless place is the corridor leading to the cinema space we’ll be using at Hidden Door this year for the Edinburgh Short Film Festival’s Hidden Door programmes.

And should you be thinking that those big buckets are probably full of spectral ectoplasm, you might well be right!

If only The […]

Hidden Door 2 Weeks to Go!

We’re still very much looking forward to Hidden Door 2017, now only 2 weeks away, and to whet your appetite, here’s some images from the venue and the launch party earlier this year – by the way, it’s a 1500 capacity auditorium!

Can’t help wondering what they will do to the cinema space at the Leith Theatre for the main event!

Thanks to Laura Bourjac and Alexandra Person for the photography!

Knock, Knock Knockin’ on Hidden Door!

This year the event is scheduled to run at the Leith Theatre, a neo-classical theatre built in the 1920s which has been abandoned since the late 1980s.  The theatre holds a 1500 capacity auditorium, as well as […]

Best of ’13 screens tonight at the Hidden Door

From 7:30pm we’ll be screening the ‘Best of 2013’ at the Hidden Door Festival.

Films include the Oscar-qualifying short ‘Butterflies’ by Isabella Peppard and Warwick Burton (Australia), which tells the tale of a young artist who sits on the sidewalk, struggling to make a living by selling drawings to passersby. ‘Quantum Jump’ by Hayk Sahakyants (Armenia) is a heart-warming animation about a clumsy, distracted monk and his unsuccessful quest to reach a state of perfection. Ronny […]

Highlights from 2013’s ESFF screened at the Hidden Door Festival

Last year’s ESFF included three open air screenings, six nights of British and International short film at venues across the city and an evening of short film roulette, deep underground in a basement in George Street.

The highlights were plentiful; Oscar-qualifying short ‘Butterflies’ directed by Isabella Peppard and produced by Warwick Burton delighted audiences with its fabulously dark and imaginative animation exploring the harsher realities of pursuing a creative path. The edgy, Belgian psychodrama ‘Naïve’ was […]
