We were delighted to be invited on Radio Saltire, East Lothian’s community radio show to talk about favourite film themes and of course, the forthcoming opening of the 2018 Edinburgh Short Film Festival!
We’re on air at 50 mins 45 secs:
ESFF ON RADIO SALTIRE
I have to admit that ‘You fill me with inertia’ is my favourite lyric in a film!
Well, that’s it wrapped for another year of short film at the ESFF!
From sending our touring programmes to Tokyo and Sardinia in June, to Ireland in May and our week-long sojourn in the bowels of the old Leith Theatre during Hidden Door, to trying to squeeze a busload of Stenhousemuir FC supporters into the cinema space at Summerhall – we’ve had a busy year organising no less than 20 separate film screenings around the world […]
The 2017 Edinburgh Short Film Festival programme now online!
We’re excited about this year’s films ranging from award winning neo-noir animation from India to thrillers from Iran and Scottish black comedy!
Running this year at the Filmhouse and Summerhall
For the 2nd year, we are very pleased to programme the Film Night at Bendigo’s Scots Day Out Festival
the Southern Hemisphere’s biggest Scottish-diaspora Festival, which takes place in Bendigo, Australia every February and will be screening the best of the Edinburgh Short Film Festival’s 2016 Scottish and Australian short film submissions on February 10th 2017!
Organised by Chris Earl and the dedicated team at SDO, along with possibly the world’s cutest Festival mascot, Bendigo Mac! Bendigo […]
Well, 2016 was a whole lot of fun – at least as far as film fests were concerned – in fact, so much fun that it’s taken us a few weeks to recover – but we have now finally hauled ourselves off the sofa, chucked out the empty pizza boxes, fired up the PC and we are now officially open for submissions for 2017!
As usual, we’ll be screening the best in International contemporary short film at […]
Graeme Cassels animated short film BRUAR is a charming and delightful animated short – which features a loquacious talking doorstop called Bruar -who, fed up with the lack of manners in today’s society and decides that it’s time to act by confronting an unsuspecting victim, Dave, to teach him a rather polite lesson.
“Bruar is devilishly funny and beautifully simple”

We’re pleased to be able to present Pete Carson’s engaging interview with Graeme about the […]
Thanks to sheer dogged persistance, we’re really pleased that our Garden Cinema Co-Ordinator, Elsa Boudjema was able to run the Garden Cinema to a packed outdoor venue in the Meadows ay least twice this week despite the worst that Autumnal weather could chuck at her and we’re delighted to share some of the charming stills – Cinema Paradiso has nothing on us!
Just before the madness starts, we’d like to offer a word of thanks to our partners and associates for our 2016 edition, we’re delighted and honoured to have been working with you guys and look forward to teaming up again soon!

We were recently asked to head out to the lovely East Lothian radio station Radio Saltire for an interview with the equally lovely Fiona Thom!
Fiona has kindly sent us a link to the recorded interview and here it is – the ESFF team were a bit late arriving so you can hear us on the show from 51 minutes in! Hope you like it!
Edinburgh Shorts on Radio Saltire
The Edinburgh Short Film Festival opens again on October 26th and will once again screen superlative short films across the city this Autumn and it’s great to see that some very good comedies have made it onto the programme this year. We’re always pleased to light the mood on those dark November nights and we can certainly do that with these gems!
From Spain, we are happy to screen romantic comedy, APOLO 81 by Óscar Bernàce […]
