New ESFF Partnership with FICBUEU

We’re delighted to announce that we are planning a partnership with FICBUEU, the International Film Festival of Bueu, in Galicia which has been running since 2008.

FICBUEU have a special focus on Galician short film and 10 screening sessions, more than 100 international short films, round tables, talks, Galician cinema award, music, education and lots of activities.

Looking forward to working with them on programming so watch this space!

A new venture we’re undertaking in partnership with Clanimation and the Edinburgh Cine and Video Society.

Open Screen provides a space for filmmakers and animators to screen their work; old, new or even just works in progress
and get feedback, advice and suggestions from other filmmakers/animators.

The first edition of Open Screen is dedicated to Animation.

The space is for experienced and new animators, beginners or groups and co-operatives.

ESFF Showcases at the 2022 Fastnet Film Festival

We’re excited to be presenting a programme of Scottish shorts at the 2022 edition of the Fastnet Film Festival in Ireland!

ESFF 2022 Now Open For Entries!

The Edinburgh Short Film Festival is now open for entries for our 2022 edition!

The 2022 edition will run October  28th to November 13th 2022 and any international or UK film under 25 minutes of any genre is eligible for entry.

The Early Bird Deadline is February 28th 2022, all entries will be eligible for our awards and we will also be programming short film showcases for festivals internationally.

ESFF Announces new partnership with Unified Filmmakers

We’re excited to announce a new partnership with Unified Filmmakers based in Munich, programmers for FilmFest Munchen, we’re working together on film events and short film programming for the coming year!

Unified Filmmakers open call is searching for the best shorts made about the Covid-19 pandemic and also will be hosting regular film talks and film events during  2021.

ESFF CALLS FOR ENTRIES OPEN FOR 2021 EDITION

Our 2021 edition is scheduled for November 2021 and we’ve just opened our call for entries!

Our 10th anniversary special events are also slated for the November events and we’re planning to hold extra screenings as
part of the 2021 festival.

The 2020 edition was postponed and our aim is to hold the delayed 2020 events as soon as the venues reopen in Edinburgh,
hopefully in the first half of this year.

Final Deadline for entry to the 2020 Edinburgh Short Film Festival: June 22nd 2020

The ESFF screens 16 nights of short film from Oct 22nd to Nov 8th 2020 at cinemas across Edinburgh,
featuring the best International, UK & Scottish short films.
Should circumstances change, our intention is to hold the screenings over the first available dates
around that period.

We’re awarding prizes for Best Film, Best Animation and Best Scottish Short Film.

2020 ESFF Filmmaker Interviews #2 Madli Laane ‘Three August Days’

Our second filmmaker interview of 2020 is with the award-winning Estonian director Madli Laane who’s engrossing coming-of-age drama THREE AUGUST DAYS was featured at last year’s Edinburgh Short Film Festival.

The film follows a young Estonian girl living in Tallinn during the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991 and her relationship with a Russian boy, set amid the grinding realities of life in a country in crisis.
