The Edinburgh Short Film Festival once again is bringing some of the world’s best short films to Edinburgh and is pretty much your only chance to see one of the UK’s strongest short film programmes.
From Academy Award winners to Annecy Animation Festival Winners and Cannes winning shorts, BAFTA winners and winners from San Francisco, Brussels, Rome, New Zealand, Australia, South Korea and beyond alongside the best 2019 Scottish and UK short films.
On Nov 1st, we’re welcoming European Film Festival directors, who’ll be braving Brexit to present their award-winning shorts!
So look forward to giving a warm welcome to the Sardinia Film Festival, Shortcutz Amsterdam,Adriatic Film Festival, Florence’s FilmCorti, Balkans Beyond Borders and hosted by our good friend Aidan Stanley of RTE and former chair of the Fastnet Film Festival!
On Nov 8th we’re also honoured to play host to acclaimed documentary filmmaker and founder of the Center for Politics, Professor Paul Stekler, who has curated a programme of outstanding American Shorts, dealing with contemporary life and uniquely American social issues.
Animation has been very much on the rise in short film and we’re also delighted to be screening a clutch of outstanding animations, with films from Oscar nominated animation studios, Emmy-award winning animators. We’re also launching our very first of our new, annual Animation Sundays over 2 Sundays in collaboration with Edinburgh College of Art where we’ll be presenting vibrant animation programmes from CEE Animation, Prague’s Animation Festival and O!PLA, the Polish Animation Festival. We’re also hosting a New Scottish Animation strand.
Animation Sundays run on Sunday October 27th and Sunday November 10th.
The Cyrenians will be hosting a screening of short films around the theme of exclusion with a panel discussion focussing on film and social policy, at Summerhall on Saturday 26th October. On top of all that, we’re hosting networking sessions hosted our favourite film radio show Cinetopia.
There’s lots of Q and As with visiting film-makers and no less than 2 parties with our infamous Awards Night party on Saturday November 9th at Summerhall AND an all-new Animation Social on Sunday November 10th!
