With the deadline for submissions now only a few short weeks away, we’re looking forward to sifting through a selection of fascinating and highly original work from film-makers across the world  (Global class of ’16) and we’re started the process of shortlisting some outstanding entries as well as looking forward to watching a whole heap of late entries over the coming two months!

We’re beginning the countdown to the deadline just after Hidden Door and we’ll issue regular updates and alerts through to Monday June 27th when the deadline expires at midnight GMT!

Our plans for 2016 are also taking shape and we can announce that the dates and venues for the Edinburgh Short Film Festival have been confirmed. The ESFF 2016 will run from Oct 26th to Nov 6th 2016 and the venues for this year’s festival will be The Filmhouse, The Cameo Cinema and Summerhall! We’re also hosting another session of pavement cinema at the outdoor kiosks, though we may well hold those in late September as a warm-up to the main event this year – the poor kiosk cinema teams were subjected to the full force of storm Abigail last year, and have politely requested a change to a more convivial seasonal slot!

We’re also pleased to be hosting our partner film festival for 2016, Japan’s biggest short film festival, Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia, and we’ll be opening our 2016 event with a screening of some of Aisa’s best shorts of last year and hopefully hosting a visit from the Short Shorts programming team!

This year, we are also planning to hold the Rising Star Award, presented by our partners, the Matthew Martino Benevolent Fund and we’ll be offering the Rising Star Trophy, cash prizes, tickets to film festivals as well as a lifetime membership to our sponsors Get Filming’s online film school and a featured industry profile on the database of ProductionHUB our US-based industry networking partners. The winning film will also be included in our touring programme for 2016/2017.

On top of that, we’re holding production funding workshop, nightly networking events and a drinks reception as well as taking visitng film-makers on a tour of Edinburgh Dungeons – and you don’t need to have made a horror film to go down there!

Deadline for submissions is Monday June 27th 2016
