We’re delighted to able to help support Edinburgh & Scottish film-makers this year with a fair few competitions and special events we’re planning on running during this year’s Edinburgh Short Film Festival!

We’re hosting our Rising Star Award which will be awarded to the most promising film-maker from this year’s submissions and we’ll be announcing the nominations for that shortly so watch this space! The winner will receive the very lovely Rising Star Trophy as well as a cash prize of £150 and provided with tickets to film festivals and events across the UK.
The winner will be announced at our closing night ceremony on Sunday November 6th at Summerhall!

We’re also excited to be working with Screen Academy Scotland and the Matthew Martino Benevolent Fund this year to hold a Script Pitch challenge competition for young, Scottish-based screenwriters. The winner and runner-up will win tickets to the 2017 London Screenwriters Festival, flights to London and industry mentoring, so we’re hoping this will help kick-start the careers of some young Scottish talent!

The Finale will be held on Sunday October 30th beginning at 2pm at Summerhall and the winner announced at 3:30pm and again that night at our film screening pr!

Apart from the competitions, we are also pleased to be able to host a Film-Maker’s funding workshop, presented by the Matthew Martino Benevolent Fund (a London-based film-maker’s charity) which will focus on the sources of funding available for film-makers to apply for from charities and trusts. This is a little-explored avenue of funding and we’re hoping lots of local and Scottish film-makers will benefit from finding out how to go about accessing this funding! The workshop will take place on Saturday 29th October starting at 1pm.

Tickets for this event are free, won’t be available to book online so attendence will be first come first served!

As before tickets for this event are free, won’t be available to book online and attendence will also be first come first served!

Apart from all that, we’re hosting nearly nightly Q and A sessions with some of the approximately 25 visiting film-makers who will be coming from countries as far apart as USA, Iran, Italy, London, France, Germany and possibly even a few Fifers if the bridge stays open!

There’ll also be nightly networking sessions in the Summerhall bar and live retro bluegrass music provided by Brimstone & Blake at our closing night party at Summerhall on Sunday November 6th  where we may be spotted, looking exhausted and clutching a beer or two somewhere in the corner so be sure to come and say hi!
