The Sardinia Film Festival  was founded in 2006 and runs for one week in the delightfully picturesque towns in the north of Sardinia. Some 500 miles from mainland Italy, Sardinia’s isolation from mainland Europe has given it a unique culture and flavour, from the Catalan/Moorish architecture to its Italian cuisine and it’s closeness to French-speaking Corsica, Sardinia’s cosmopolitan culture and history has long been subject to foreign influences, including  Vikings to the Bourbons and now it’s the turn of some lowland Scots to bring them culture from a faraway land. Hey, if they’re lucky, we will maybe do them some stovies!

Sardinia also has a vibrant and accomplished short film culture and the SFF celebrates this energy each year in the films it screens and the award it makes for the best Sardinian short film. Last year’s winner Maialetto della Nurra (Nurra’s little pig) and Domenica by Bonifacio Angius was screened at the 2016 Edinburgh Short Film Festival as part of our ongoing collaboration with the SFF.

We’re screening a range of films from last year’s ESFF, including dark, noir-influenced fantasy RITMOA by Alexandre Garacotche and Tim Ellrich’s multi award-winning, one take comedy, THE BATHTUB and some Edinburgh-shot romance in the shape of Lucas Kao’s V DAY.
Christos Bourantas & Kreon Krionas sent us their anime-inspired Greek fantasy animation AURELIA and Phoebe Warries lyrical LUNETTE and we’re also showing Valeria Luchetti’s witty Italian comedy THE LAST TRIP and we’re looking forward to screening Eve McConnachie’s balletic MAZE.
